In 2000, Ottarsdottir conducted a qualitative study which showed that, in general, people recall five times the number of words which have been memorized through drawings than if using traditional writing methods, when memorizing over an extended period of time. Memory drawings make it easier for individuals to memorize various coursework subjects, for example spelling, translations of foreign words and diverse facts, such as those related to geography.
